Maurice Edu Puts United States Up 1-0 In 17th Minute

Maurice Edu cleaned-up a mess caused by Petr Cech to put the United States up 1-0 in the 17th minute in Hartford.

Stuart Holden, from a dead ball on the left flank, put his set piece to the far post. A cluster of players elevated while Cech came off his line for a punch. The `keeper failed to get to the cross, and with the ball loose in the area, the Rangers midfielder pounced for the opening goal.

It was Edu’s first international goal, fortunately given by a surprisingly poor read from an experienced goalkeeper.

In the process, Edson Buddle has come up with a bloody mouth and is on the sideline getting treatment (and a new shirt).
