Jan Polak Puts Czech Republic Up 2-1 Over United States

Left back is proving to be a huge liability for the United States in this match, with the Czech Republic’s second goal coming as a result of an error by Heath Pearce.

Pearce, brought in at halftime, allowed Czech Jan Polak to be ball-side on a cross from David Lafata. Smooth and easy execution from the Czechs saw an easy one-timer from seven yards out, putting the visitors up 2-1.

The goal came minutes after an initial Polak goal was called back for offsides.

One-touch build up through the left side saw Lafata with the ball near the box’s elbow with Steve Cherundolo trying to recover. Lefata’s cut-back toward the middle bought him time to pick out Polak’s run.

2-1, Czech Republic.
