Oguchi Onyewu’s first match since October last 66 minutes, leaving more questions than answers when the center half was subbed-off. Alejandro Bedoya was brought-on, with defensive midfielder Maurice Edu moving into the back line, where he played in the 2008 Olympics.

Onyewu was responsible for the Czech Republic’s first goal and at times looked tentative and restricted. However, for a twenty minute stretch before the Tomas Sivok goal, Onyewu looked to be finding the rhythm of the match, jumping into midfield to break-up two plays while showing decent footwork on the ball.
However, the seven month layoff for “Gooch” showed a player who will have to keep contributing in order to be up-to-speed for South Africa.
