Fenin Puts Czech Republic Up 3-2 Over United States

The Czech Republic built their third goal through the left side of the United States’ defense, with a mistimed tackle by Heath Pearce taking the left back out of the play, allowing the Czechs to get to the byline. A cross into chaos found Martin Fenin, who made up for his missed chance in the first half by finishing into Brad Guzan’s upper-right-hand corner, making it 3-2.

It was a poor defensive display for the U.S., allowing penetration through the Czech’s right flank and failing to clean-up the play once the cross was sent in. Fenin was given time to lift the ball into the upper ninety, giving the Czech’s the lead.

Fenin had a chance in the first half when the Czechs again broke through the left side of the U.S. defense, then manned by Jonathan Bornstein. He pulled that chance wide.
