The Las Vegas Sun is reporting that former UFC light heavyweight champ Forrest Griffin has undergone shoulder surgery and will be sidelined until September. Griffin, who was slated to take on Antonio Rogerio Nogueira this Saturday at UFC 114, was forced to pull out of the fight earlier this month. According to his trainer, Jimmy Gifford, the surgery will keep him on the training bike for the better part of 3 months.

"He saw a specialist in Los Angeles and had it worked on," Gifford said. "It was minor surgery, nothing crazy. He'll start physical therapy in six weeks and be on the shelf for 12 weeks."
“We’re not sure on a return, but October would be a good guess. Maybe late September.”
Because of the long layoff, we are pretty much left to ourselves to contemplate his next opponent. Rematches with Rampage Jackson and Mauricio Shogun Rua could be intriguing, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Griffin get a chance to avenge his loss to Keith Jardine, that is if he is still signed with the promotion this fall.
