NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell spoke to reporters on Tuesday and gave a quick update to the ongoing process of Stan Kroenke attempting to purchase the remaining shares of the Rams.
NFL Hopes To Address Kroenke’s Purchase Of Rams By August
When we last talked about this story, Kroenke had exercised his first right of refusal to buy the remaining 60% of the team. He also owns pro franchises in Denver, which would violate the NFL’s cross-ownership rules, so the rumor was that he would transfer ownership of either the Denver franchises or the Rams to his wife.
Goodell says he expects a decision in the coming months.
I don’t expect another league meeting until August. We did discuss that today and had an update. We spoke to our Finance Committee yesterday and Stan met with the Finance Committee, too. We will continue to work on that over the summer but it would be our hope to address that prior to the start of the regular season.
He also stressed that Kroenke is ready and willing to comply by all NFL rules to complete the sale. This would seemingly mean that his wife would take control of one (or more) of the franchises he owns.
