Houston’s Ugly Season Continues: Astros Lose To Brewers On Bases-Loaded Walk In 10th

Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Rickie Weeks drew a game-winning walk with the bases loaded and two outs in the 10th, helping the Milwaukee Brewers rally for a 4-3 win over the Houston Astros in the rubber match of a three-game series at Miller Mark.

Weeks finished the game 2-for-3 with three walks for the Brewers, who snapped a five-series winless streak with Thursday's victory. Carlos Gomez finished with two hits and two RBI -- including the game-tying RBI single in the ninth inning.

Casey McGehee went 3-for-5 with his NL-leading 41st RBI for Milwaukee, which is 20-7 at home against Houston since the 2007 season. John Axford (1-0) earned his first career victory after pitching a perfect 10th inning, while Dave Bush was spared the hard-luck loss after allowing two unearned runs in five frames.

“We’ve got a couple of guys in our bullpen who are continuing to impress,” said Brewers manager Ken Macha. “It’s good to have strong arms. Bush did well in his (five) innings. The only runs off of him were unearned off a bloop hit. He deserved to get the win.”

Brett Myers gave up two runs on seven hits and three walks in six innings for the Astros, who are winless in their last five series (0-4-1). Hunter Pence chipped in with three hits and two stolen bases, while Geoff Blum drove two runs.

Matt Lindstrom (1-1) had his streak of 22 consecutive saves snapped after giving up a run in the ninth, then received his first loss of the year after yielding the game-winning run in the 10th. He walked three batters and gave up four hits.

After Milwaukee rallied to tie the game in the ninth off Lindstrom, the Brewers scored again in the 10th to win it.

McGehee opened the inning with a single to right, and George Kottaras drew a walk two batters later. Alcides Escobar roped a single to left to load the bases for pinch-hitter Randy Wolf, who struck out. Lindstrom was unable to get out of the jam, however, throwing a 3-2 pitch to Weeks down and away to force in the game-winning run.

With the game tied at two, the Astros took advantage of an error in the sixth to go in front.

Marco Estrada began the inning for Milwaukee and walked Cory Sullivan, and Sullivan moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Estrada issued another walk to Kevin Cash, but Myers popped out trying to put down a bunt.

Michael Bourn pulled a ball to the left of second baseman Weeks, but Weeks' off-balance throw sailed wide of first, allowing Sullivan to score the go- ahead run.

Milwaukee couldn’t get its offense going again until the ninth, when it tied the game against Lindstrom.

Escobar began the inning with a groundball single to left and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Weeks worked a walk, and Gomez roped an RBI single down the left field line to tie the game. With runners on first and third and only one out, Ryan Braun struck out, and Prince Fielder barely missed a game- winning home run, instead flying out to the warning track in right-center.

The Astros scored twice in the opening inning. Jeff Keppinger smacked a one- out double, and Pence reached when Fielder was pulled off first base on an errant throw by shortstop Escobar.

A groundout moved the runners to second and third with two outs, and Blum blooped a two-run single to shallow left.

After going hitless for the first two innings, Milwaukee scratched together a run in the third on singles from Escobar, Weeks and Gomez.

Weeks singled to start the Brewers’ fifth inning and advanced to second on Fielder’s two-out walk. McGehee followed with a base hit up the middle to plate Weeks and tie the game, 2-2.
