The Morning Call is reporting that Penn State head coach Joe Paterno was forced to withdraw from a scheduled appearance at an event in Hershey due to illness. Paterno, 83, is recovering from a bout of intestinal influenza.
Joe Paterno Absent From ‘Evening With Joe’ Event Due To Illness
“I was surprised this afternoon that he couldn’t make it,” Curley said. “He’s not 100 percent but he’s getting a lot better, feeling good. ... He’s much stronger. I thought he was good to go today.”
Paterno was also unable to attend an ‘Evening with Joe’ event May 11th in Pittsburgh, as well as last week’s Big Ten meetings in Chicago. Although ill, the Penn State institution was still able to lead staff and quad meeting this week, as well as maintain constant communication with his team.
“He has been actively involved with the squad and the staff and recruiting,” Curley said. “He’s just having a little problem getting over the hump.”
