Nearly as quickly as his name surfaced for the Bulls’ head coaching vacancy, talks emerged that not only was John Calipari not interested in the job, but that he was working on a contract extension with Kentucky that would keep him with the Wildcats for the rest of his career.
Calipari Not Interested In Bulls’ Job, Kentucky Working On Contract Extension
“We have begun initial discussions on restructuring his contract so that he’s the coach at Kentucky until he retires,” Barnhart said in a statement.
Barnhart’s comments came just hours after reports surfaced linking Calipari and the coaching vacancy with the NBA’s Chicago Bulls, who fired Vinny Del Negro on Tuesday.
Calipari makes nearly $4 million annually, already tops in college basketball.
Meanwhile, Calipari, because he is so “hip” and “with it,” published his response to the Bulls rumors via Facebook.
Throughout my career I’ve been mentioned for other jobs. Now that I’m here u won’t hear about other colleges because I’ve got the best job. Every year you will hear my named mentioned for NBA jobs because I coached in the league before. I’m very happy at Kentucky. Go Big Blue!
No word on his relationship status.
