This season, Fox Sports NASCAR analyst Darrell Waltrip has seemed more annoying than ever. Or better than ever, depending on your viewpoint.
Darrell Waltrip Explains His Boogity
↵In case you’re in the “annoyed” camp, you may be interested to learn that in this USA Today feature on Waltrip, Ol’ DW talks about some feedback he’s received about saying “Boogity, boogity, boogity!” at the start of every race.
↵↵“I got a note from a lady that said that, if I do that one more time at the start of a race, she’s going to kill her dog,” Waltrip says, reclined and shoeless in his motor coach.
↵“I’m thinking she’s serious. It’s a blessing and a curse. But when you’ve got 43 cars and 9,000 (combined) rpm, ‘boogity-boogity’ might not be the best thing, but it’s better than just saying the green flag is in the air.”
↵↵But don’t expect Waltrip to stop with the boogity-boogity – or go away anytime soon. Play-by-play man Mike Joy says Waltrip has become “kind of like John Madden,” and Fox Sports chairman David Hill praises Waltrip’s “amazing ability to teach.”
↵Teach what? If there’s anything I’ve learned by listening to Darrell Waltrip, it’s how great Darrell Waltrip thinks Darrell Waltrip is.
