Major League Soccer Targets New York For 20th Team
Garber revealed that the league had been in discussions with the Wilpon family, owners of the New York Mets. The commissioner said those discussions ended over a year ago as the group shifted focus to the opening of Citi Field.
Major League Soccer had also been linked with the Atlanta, Miami, and Tampa markets (amongst others) in their quest to get to twenty teams.
