Nicklas Lidstrom To Return For 2010-2011 Season

He's 41 years old, but it doesn't seem to matter to Nicklas Lidstrom. The future Hall of Fame defenseman will return to the Detroit Red Wings for at least one more season. The team announced the deal on Monday, and they didn't exactly take a modest approach.

Nicklas Lidstrom, who is widely considered the world’s best defenseman in hockey, will return for a 19th season, signing a one-year contract, the Red Wings announced Tuesday.

But can you really blame them? Lidstrom is a steady force on the Wings blueline and the team is not yet ready for his departure. You can’t replace a guy who plays 25 minutes a night at age 41 while not missing a single game all year, and you can’t replace a guy who’s been a Norris Trophy finalists in 10 of the last 12 years.

Luckily for the Wings, they won’t have to just yet.
