South Africa’s Tshabalala Strikes First, Gives Bafana Bafana 1-0 Lead Over Mexico

Forty-five minutes of Mexican control were wiped away minutes into the second half, with South Africa’s Siphiwe Tshabalala’s 53rd minute goal from eighteen yards out, into the upper right corner of goal, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead over Mexico.

It was a counter attack that saw the South African midfielder put behind the Mexico defense but to the right of `keeper Oscar Pérez’s goal. Two steps inside the area, Tshabalala let a left-footed blast go, the ball easing just under the crossbar for the first goal of South Africa 2010.

Andres Guardado has come on for Paul Aguilar as Mexico starts to chase the match.
