The UFC 115 main event only lasted one round but it was a solid back-and-forth bout that delivered high quality action. Rich Franklin’s left arm was broken early in the bout when Chuck Liddell threw a body kick that Franklin blocked. Broken arm or not, Rich wasn’t going to stop throwing punches. In the end it was a short right hand in the middle of a punching exchange that landed to the chin of Chuck and put him to sleep.
UFC 115 Results - Rich Franklin Knocks Out Chuck Liddell
There were points in the bout where each man had landed hard shots and hurt the other and at times it looked like Liddell may finish off the faster Franklin. In the end it was the questionable chin of Chuck and the underrated power of Rich that told the story of the bout.
Franklin will be out for a while to rehabilitate his arm but it is not clear if he will return as a light heavyweight or middleweight. When asked after the fight his response was “ask Dana White and the UFC.”
It was a solid ending to a good card and sets up some potentially big fights for Rich Franklin when he returns. It also will probably be the last fight of Chuck Liddell’s career. He can’t compete at an appropriate level and he has gotten KO’ed repeatedly at this point. It’s time to retire and move on to a nice office job with Zuffa.
