Meanwhile, in England: Ad in Place of Gerrard Goal, Green Roasted by Tabloids
The amazing thing about the above video—which shows that British broadcaster ITV switched to an ad as Steven Gerrard scored for England on Saturday—is that the person watching the game refrained from tossing something through their TV long enough to capture and upload the video.
It does seem as though it was uploaded before Robert Green’s mistake, though, so don’t rule out the idea that the uploader is out one TV today.
For his part in Saturday’s disappointing tie, Green is getting more than part of the press’ vitriol. News of the World tags him with “Hand of Clod” and calls his error an “astonishing blunder.“ The Daily Mirror follows suit on the headline and has a columnist calling Green’s fumble “the worst England blunder ever.“ The Daily Star trots out the more optimistic “Don’t Panic”; The Daily Mail has English players blaming the Jabulani ball, despite doing an ad for it months ago.
Basically, it’s all about recriminations and unrest in England right now. Something tells me that will help the tabloids sell well today.
