Sorry, Internet: Obama Smiling As Beckham Grimaces is PhotoShop Magic
That’s a great picture, right? President Barack Obama smiling as David Beckham fumes late in the first half of yesterday’s U.S.-England tussle fits our image of Obama as the First Fan perfectly. Alas, it’s fake.
That’s a different photo of the real scene, taken during a chat with astronauts aboard the International Space Station this February. It was apparently taken by official White House photographer Pete Souza, though I can’t find it on the White House Flickr feed.
Sorry to throw water on your dreams of sharing in Beckham-based schadenfreude with that guy in the White House, Internet, but the image you’ve been seeing everywhere is PhotoShopped. (The reflection on the table’s a pretty good indication, too.)
It is funny, though.
