Jason Hammel Leads The Way In Rare 1-0 Coors Field Shutout Of Blue Jays

Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Jason Hammel and Manuel Corpas combined on a four-hitter in Colorado's 1-0 victory over Toronto in the middle meeting of a three-game interleague set at Coors Field.

Hammel (4-3) yielded only three hits, while issuing three walks and fanning six to win his third straight decision for Colorado, which has claimed the first two games of the series after losing three straight to Houston.

Corpas allowed one hit in the ninth and recorded his eighth save to preserve the Rockies club record-tying eighth shutout of the season.

Carlos Gonzalez drove in the only run of the game with a sixth inning sacrifice fly, as the Rockies remained perfect in five all-time meetings with Toronto in Denver.

Brandon Morrow (4-5) was the hard luck loser after giving up the game's lone run on five hits over six frames. He walked three and struck out six for the Jays, who have dropped five out of six.

Hammel gave up a leadoff double to Fred Lewis to begin the game before settling in and setting down the next 12 batters.

Alex Gonzalez opened the away fifth with a single and moved to second base on a wild pitch with nobody out but was left stranded there. Hammel left two runners on in the eighth when he got Aaron Hill to fly out to end the frame.

Hammel started the sixth by drawing a walk and moved to third base on a Todd Helton single before crossing the plate on Gonzalez's fly out to right field.

Ryan Spilborghs singled with two outs in the inning but Helton was thrown out at the plate by Jose Bautista from right field for the final out.

The Rockies put runners at the corners with one out in the eighth and Toronto skipper Cito Gaston called on Shawn Camp to get out of the jam and the right- hander delivered, striking out Spilbroghs and Miguel Olivo to squash the threat.
