Outfielder Conor Jackson hasn't had the easiest few years. Following a successful 2008, he missed most of 2009 suffering from Valley Fever, and in the early going in 2010 he hasn't yet been able to get into a groove. Now, he's getting a fresh start, as the Diamondbacks have sent him to the A's.
Struggling Conor Jackson Sent To Oakland In Exchange For Minor League Reliever
Diamondacks trade Conor Jackson to #Athletics for minor-league right-hander Sam Demel
Jackson has batted just .216/.301/.300 over the last two partial seasons, but prior to that, he had a three-year run of an .822 OPS. The A’s are hoping that the righty bat, who’s still just 28 years old, will be able to provide some thump off the bench and in an outfield rotation. The concern, of course, is that Jackson is either finished or will struggle outside of Arizona’s hitter-friendly environment, but with the offense having struggled against southpaws, the A’s figured it was worth a shot.
Demel, meanwhile, is a 24 year old righty-handed closer who has spent roughly the last calendar year in AAA Sacramento, collecting 61 strikeouts and 30 walks in 61 innings. He seems to have taken a step forward this season, and he’s a good bet to come right up and try to help a bullpen that has struggled like none other.
Jackson is under contract for $3.1m in 2010, and has one remaining year of team control. Find more on the trade at Athletics Nation and AZ Snakepit. You can also visit the updating trade stream at SBN Arizona.
