World Cup 2010, Spain Vs. Switzerland: Gelson Fernandes Puts Swiss Ahead

Gelson Fernandes, who is in the line-up because Valon Behrami could not play, has scored in the 52nd minute to put Switerland up over Spain, 1-0.

A build-up through the middle of the pitch looked like it had been broken-up by Gerard Pique, but his interception of a laid off pass found it’s way into the Spanish area. A chaotic battle in front of goal saw Gelson Fernandes put the ball in from the edge of the box, giving Switzerland the lead.

In the process, Gerard Piqué looked to suffer a cut to the face, having been hit by Fernandes’s boot after the defender had fallen to the ground. Piqué has since returned.
