LenDale White granted his first interview since being released last month by the Seattle Seahawks to The Tennessean’s Jim Wyatt. In a series of candid comments, White admitted to marijuana use while in the NFL, as well as made a few acerbic statements about Pete Carroll his former coach at USC and very briefly with the Seahawks.
LenDale White Discusses Marijuana Use, Souring Relationship With Pete Carroll
“I did it, so it is my fault,’’ White said. “I smoked marijuana; that is all I have ever done. That’s all I do, that’s it. I smoke. I don’t care about any other drugs, but it’s marijuana. … But I have changed. I am a good man. Unfortunately the stuff that I did in my recent past caught up to me in the present and it’s affecting my future.’’While White said he needed to make obvious changes in his life, he did claim that he had worked hard to make it in the NFL. Who his next team will be, if there is one, remains a mystery. He said that he doesn’t know what the actual cause of his expected four-game suspension by the NFL for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy, though he figures it is because of the marijuana use.
He’s less certain why exactly he was let go by the Seahawks. Pete Carroll, who White once only discussed in glowing terms, drew more pointed words in this interview when White was asked to respond to Carroll’s statement that needed to go somewhere besides Seattle to get a job.
“Pete Carroll? The same Pete Carroll who ran out on ’SC?’’ said White, shaking his head. “I have no comment on Pete. I better wait ’til I’m on a team one day before I say anything.’’Because another team wants to know that you will only publically disparage Pete Carroll once you are in their employ? Got it.
