For years (YEARS!), Reggie Bush has publicly denied that he did anything illegal while at USC. Now that the NCAA has decided otherwise and Southern Cal is paying the price, Bush has shifted into Phase II of the Sports PR Crisis Management System.
The Reggie Bush Contrition Tour Commences
When the truth is revealed and everyone knows you really did the thing that you said you didn’t do, act contrite but cling desperately to your defunct stance no matter how crazy you sound.
“I believe that there’s a lot of untold truth to this matter, there’s a lot of fabricated lies to this matter, but it is what it is and I can’t sit here and cry about it. I can’t sit here and make up excuses,” Bush said. “Ultimately, it’s a responsibility that’s placed on USC and my shoulders. It’s because of me. So all I can do is continue to try to help them and move forward with the situation.
“God works in mysterious ways and at the end of the day I think this, too, shall pass and hopefully we can grow stronger from this.”
USC blog Conquest Chronicles is left asking, “Who is ‘we’?” Bush and his family? Bush and USC? Bush and God?
It’s as if Reggie isn’t making any sense. And that, my friends, is the point. Phase II complete.
