Jake Arrieta Wins Again As Orioles Rookie Pitches Past Giants
Miguel Tejada had three hits and scored once, and Adam Jones homered for the Orioles, who are just 7-26 on the road this season. They also snapped a four- game slide.
Arrieta (2-0) was charged with three hits and a run, a homer to Pablo Sandoval in the third inning, over his seven-plus frames. David Hernandez pitched the final inning to lock down his second save.
Joe Martinez (0-1) suffered the loss in his season debut, giving up eight hits and four runs over 6 1/3 frames.
The Giants, who had just three hits, had their four-game winning streak broken.
Corey Patterson singled to lead off the game and stole second base before scoring later in the inning on a groundout from Ty Wigginton.
Another ground ball by Wigginton plated Tejada in the third before Sandoval led off the bottom of the frame with his sixth homer of the year.
Jones, though, started the fourth with his eighth home run of the season, a blast to left field for the 3-1 lead.
Baltimore loaded the bases with nobody out in the fifth and Patterson came home on Wigginton's double-play grounder.
Arrieta retired the side in order in the seventh before Bengie Molina singled to begin the San Francisco eighth. Will Ohman entered from the bullpen, but hit pinch-hitter Aaron Rowand with a pitch. Ohman, despite a wild pitch, retired the ensuing three batters to escape the jam.
