Matt Treanor Steps Up Off Bench As Rangers Rally Past Marlins In Ninth

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Pinch-hitter Matt Treanor hit a two-run triple in the top of the ninth inning, lifting the Texas Rangers over the Florida Marlins, 3-2, in the opener of a three-game interleague series at Sun Life Stadium.

Josh Hamilton had two hits and drove in the other run for the Rangers, who have won three in a row and six of seven overall. Hamilton extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

Starter C.J. Wilson allowed two runs on two hits in six innings. The left- hander also walked a career-high six batters and struck out six. Alexi Ogando (1-0) tossed a scoreless eighth to pick up his first win in the majors.

Hanley Ramirez went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer for the Marlins, who had won three of four coming in.

Josh Johnson gave up just one run on four hits in a seven-inning start. The right-hander also struck out seven and walked one. Leo Nunez (2-1) yielded both late runs in the ninth to take the loss.

"It happens. Usually when you lose those in the ninth inning it's tough. We'll bounce back tomorrow," Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said.

With Florida holding a 2-1 lead, Nunez came on in the top of the ninth to try to close the game out. Hamilton led off with a single and stole second before Justin Smoak fouled out. Pinch-hitter David Murphy then grounded out. Julio Borbon walked to put runners on the corners for Treanor, who cleared the bases with a triple off the wall in center. Elvis Andrus grounded out to end the inning, but not before Texas took a 3-2 lead.

"I think Treanor was the better hitter," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "I was trying to get the best hitter in the box. For what I had left, he was the better hitter."

Neftali Feliz pitched a perfect home ninth to record his 16th save of the year.

The Rangers got on the board in the first. Ian Kinsler and Vladimir Guerrero hit consecutive two-out singles to put runners on the corners then Hamilton followed with an RBI base hit up the middle.

Wilson was cruising along until the sixth. Gaby Sanchez worked a one-out walk and came around to score on Ramirez's homer to straightaway center.

The Marlins put runners on the corners with two outs in the eighth, but Cody Ross grounded into a fielder's choice to end the threat.
