U.S. Open Heckler Informs Tiger Woods Just Whose Business Is Whose

Yesterday Tiger Woods didn’t invite many positive comparisons to his memorable performance at the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, though he was hardly alone as a top-ranked golfer having problems in the opening round. Woods’ struggles on the green led him to finish 3-over after the first round, with Woods failing to sink a single birdie. Scoring par on his first eight holes, Tiger extended his streak of holes without a bogey to 34 at U.S. Open tournaments at Pebble Beach.↵↵That streak ended at No. 9, where Woods was also the subject of heckling on the course. According to Sports Illustrated’s Damon Hack and Golf.com’s David Dusek, a fan piped up, “It is our business, Tiger, you made it our business!” Obviously that’s in reference to the mistress scandals that Woods has tried to deflect by saying it’s his personal business and a matter of discussion for the public and the press. That’s not really true, considering that the media and society at large decide that we make the private life of public figures our business, but it’s a glib answer to Tiger Woods’ weak attempt to end the media glare on his dalliances.↵
↵↵Woods went on to bogey the hole by three-putting on the green, making it the first of three bogeys on the day.↵
