Troy Tulowitzki, the starting shortstop for the Colorado Rockies, suffered a pitched ball to the wrist on Thursday versus the Twins. On Friday, Trey Ringolsby of Inside the Rockies tweets that Tulo's wrist is, in fact, broken:
Troy Tulowitzki Appears Headed To Disabled List With Broken Wrist
Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki, hit by pitch in Minn Thurs, suffered broken left wrist. Clint Barmes to SS. Chris Nelson up from minors.
While Ringolsby doesn’t specifically report that Tulowitzki is headed to the disabled list, it’s a virtual certainty. This injury comes on the heels of a groin injury that knocked him out of the starting lineup last weekend. SB Nation’s Rockies blog, Purple Row, has already weighed in:
So far this season, Tulo has posted a .306/.375/.502 line with 9HR, 34RBI. Tulo's .386 wOBA was 3rd best on the team, and his 2.3 WAR was 2nd best.
Word is that Clint Barmes will slide to SS. I'd like to see Nelson take some reps there as well.
Certainly a significant blow for a team that, while standing in fourth place in the NL West, is only four games out of first. For more on Tulo and the Rockies, head on over to Purple Row.
