Remember when Ron Artest yelled about pretty much everything except his literal laundry list in the aftermath of the Lakers’ Game 7 win? And remember that song he talked about? Well, here’s his first live performance of “Champion” as an NBA champion:
Music For Your Saturday Night: Ron Artest’s “Champion”
Not enough for you? Want to hear it without the “Beamer, Benz, or Bentley” beat? You can download it here, courtesy of Hip-Hop-N-More.
It’s not Grammy material, but it’s not awful, either. It’s amusing to hear a professional athlete compare himself to professional athletes, especially when he’s comparing himself to Cassius Clay, “Tyson in his prime,” Barry Bonds, Dale Earnhardt (!), and Michael Phelps, and he’s got a confident, if not spectacular, flow:
⇥I love the fourth quarter, I love the ninth inning
⇥I love Game 7, bring on the competitionI don’t think “Champion” is going to live on many iPods that aren’t owned by Lakers fans. But those Lakers fans might find themselves enjoying it long past this moment. (And, honestly, I can’t wait for the remix.)
