So much for the number one national seed and prohibitive favorites at the College World Series. Arizona St., who nearly everyone pegged to take home the national title, is seeing what happens when you run into a hot team and right now, Clemson is on fire.
2010 College World Series: Clemson In Control, Up 6-1
Arizona St. starting pitcher Seth Blair couldn’t get out of the fifth inning and by the time he got the hook, five runs had come across. The man who relieved him, Brady Rogers, allowed a run of his own and through six inning, Clemson has 11 hits. The two pitchers weren’t helped much by each getting called for a balk and the two errors by a normally sensational Arizona St. defense has hurt them further.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are going to work at the plate. All nine starters already have at least one hit for Clemson and nobody has more than one RBI or one run scored. It’s been a total team effort and that extends to the mound, where Casey Harman is in fine form.
Coming into the College World Series, pitching was supposed to be the Tigers’ proble, but Harman has allowed just one run on four hits as we head to the bottom of the sixth to shut down an Arizona St. offense that has hurt a lot of pitching staffs this season. Harman has showed no fear, making the Sun Devils looks overwhelmed by simply pounding the zone. So simple and so effective, the Tigers are in complete control.
