The Spain attacker took a ball on the left flank about 35 yards from goal. He charged at and went around right back Sergio Mendoza, just inside the penalty area. When Osman Chávez came to support his fullback, Villa cut back onto his right foot and, while falling to the ground, let a shot go from 14 yards out, beating goalkeeper Noel Valladares to the far post, making it 1-0.
