Wimbledon: Andy Roddick Demolishes Ram In Opener

No. 5 Andy Roddick won his first round match at Wimbledon 2010 easily, defeating compatriot Rajeev Ram 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

There were some questions about Roddick’s form coming into Wimbledon, after a poor French Open and a early loss to Dudi Sela at the Queen’s Club warm-up event London.

But his form was impeccable today, and Roddick thoroughly outclassed his fellow American from wire to wire.

Ram is no slouch on the grass, having won Newport (the only grass court tournament held in North America) in 2009. But he was no match for Roddick’s serve or consistency off the ground.

Roddick faces a much tougher foe in round two—Frenchman Michael Llodra, who won the title in Eastbourne last week and is now being coached by former Wimbledon champion Amelie Mauresmo.

Roddick should win that match as well, but nothing is a given with the way seeds have already been challenged in this tournament.
