French Coach Says Walkout Is ‘Imbecility’

While not perhaps as blunt as some of the other conversations involved in the Nicolas Anelka controversy, Raymond Domenech certainly didn’t mince words when he talked about the player walkout staged Sunday to protest Anelka being kicked off the team.

“I tried to convince them that what they were doing was an aberration, an imbecility, a stupidity without name,” Domenech said Monday.

Domenech wouldn’t say whether Patrice Evra — one of the walkout leaders — will remain as captain and was even dodgy about who might be available for the game.

When Domenech was asked if some players had told him they do not want to play the game, he answered evasively.

“It is a possibility that we will finalize (things) tonight with the staff to see what team we put in place,” he said.

This should turn out well for France.
