Lou Holtz, Notre Dame legend and world-class inspirational orator (just watch his ESPN pep talks), has now said the unthinkable for a longstanding member of the Irish family.
Dr. Lou’s Prescription For Notre Dame: Go To The Big Ten (Or Twelve)
↵↵“However, two days ago was the first time I’ve ever said that I think Notre Dame ought to seriously consider joining the Big Ten. Because what I see happening, I see four or five superconferences.”
↵↵Which brings us back to the first rule of this year’s Summer of Conference Realignment: Even when you think it’s over, it’s never actually over. Lou is the second member of the Holtz clan to fuel the expansion rumors in recent days after his son Skip all but said he’d like South Florida to play somewhere other than the Big East.
↵It’s not entirely clear that Holtz’s comments will have any real impact on public opinion at Notre Dame; anyone who’s watched his sometimes bizarre (okay, often bizarre) appearances on ESPN’s halftime shows has a list of reasons that the Irish administration should think twice before following his counsel.
↵But we’re sure it will sound convincing once Lou comes up with some charming anecdote about his wife that makes it sound almost logical.
