Messi Vows To Get Oasis To Reunite For Argentina Victory Party

Until now, Diego Maradona promising to run naked through the streets was the most outrageous stunt to be made by the Argentinians should they come away from South Africa with the country’s third World Cup title. On second thought, it’s still the most outrageous, but Leo Messi’s stated determination to reunite the fractious British rock band Oasis for a celebratory show if Argentina wins stands to be the most improbable. ↵↵Though the band had been around for 15 years before Noel and Liam Gallagher finally succumbed to familial strife and broke up last year, Messi had never come across their work. Though Oasis does have an impressive international following, I suppose it would be difficult to fault an Argentine for missing out on “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?” ↵
↵↵Albiceleste teammate Carlos Tevez, being a current resident of Manchester, would have had a more difficult time missing the band’s presence. On the plane ride to the World Cup, he shared the first two of the Oasis’ albums with Messi, who was immediately hooked. I guess we know somebody who will be picking up the latest greatest hits album the band put out last week.↵

↵Oasis has become the soundtrack for Messi during the Cup. He said he listens to them in transit to matches and in the locker room. Should Argentina win it all, the memory would be inseparable from the moment he first learned about Oasis. It only makes sense a title would be celebrated by an Oasis live show, their present split be damned. ↵
↵↵⇥“We have agreed that if we win the World Cup we want to fly them over to Argentina for our celebration party. ↵⇥↵⇥“We just need them to name their price.”↵⇥
↵↵↵Maradona is also a fan, so it’s likely he’d be willing to chip in. Though I imagine one of the band’s stipulations, aside from separate dressing rooms for Noel and Liam, would be that Maradona gets his streaking over with before the show.↵
