Orioles Acquire Jake Fox From A’s For Minor Leaguer

The A's had big plans for Jake Fox coming into the season. The versatile 27 year old had maimed AAA to the tune of a 1.034 OPS, and he slugged .468 for the Cubs in 2009 in his first real exposure to the bigs. Things, however, didn't go quite as intended, and after designating Fox for assignment a week ago, the A's have now sent him to Baltimore:

orioles have officially landed utility man Jake Fox from Oakland, likely for a minor leaguer. He will b activated tonight.

The righty Fox hit just .214/.264/.327 for the A's over 106 trips to the plate, with a disappointing two home runs. However, despite that, he does provide some degree of youth and potential, which makes him worth a shot for the O's, who've had to sit through an awful year from Garrett Atkins. It's unknown exactly where Fox will fit in, but he's capable of catching and playing all the corners, meaning he's a useful experiment.

The minor leaguer going to Oakland isn’t expected to be anyone noteworthy. Read more at Camden Chat and Athletics Nation.
