Last Friday, Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz was struck in the head by a broken bat. Tests showed that he didn't suffer a concussion, but he still felt out of sorts; sufficiently out of sorts to get a two-week break:

Jimmy Rollins activated, Carlos Ruiz on the DL, Mike Zagurski recalled, Greg Dobbs DFA'd. Mathieson optioned to Triple-A.
It isn't expected to be a long-term issue, as Ruiz wasn't even thought to need a DL stint until Tuesday. Still, he's a good deal better than backups Dane Sardinha and Brian Schneider, so every day that he's out, the Phillies as a team will be worse. And that's something of which they can't really afford too much as they try to hang tight in the NL East race.
