After two days, Clemson finally beat Oklahoma. A game stopped on Tuesday due to rain was finished on Wednesday and Clemson came away 6-4 winners over Oklahoma, holding on after leading 6-1 starting the Wednesday action.
2010 College World Series: Clemson Holds On To 6-4 Win Over Oklahoma
It was actually the Sooners who scored first back on Tuesday, getting a run in the fourth to take a 1-0 lead, but it would not last long. Two singles totaled three RBI for Clemson in the bottom half of the fourth and a sacrifice fly was good for another run as the Tigers took a 4-1 lead. Shoddy Oklahoma defense led to another two Clemson runs in the fifth and when the game was stopped due to rain in the sixth, the Tigers were holding on to a 6-1 lead.
As soon as Oklahoma got their cracks on Wednesday, they made them count. Cameron Seitzer led off the seventh with a solo home run, then Tyler Ogle hit one out in the eighth to make it a 6-3 ballgame. Later in the eighth, Oklahoma loaded up the bases with two outs, but Clemson got the out they needed to get out of the jam.
A RBI double in the ninth cut the Clemson lead to 6-4, but Alex Frederick, who was sensational in relief when Clemson beat Arizona St., was able to finish things off for the Tigers’ win over the Sooners.
John Hinson was the star Tigers, going 3-4 with a pair of RBI and a run, while Spencer Kieboom drove in a pair of runs himself. The four and five hitters in the Oklahoma lineup, Tyler Ogle and Cody Reine, combined for four hits, two RBI and two runs, but going back to Tuesday, Scott Weissman’s five innings of one-run ball was too good.
Now, Oklahoma has to play South Carolina with their season on the line, while Clemson awaits the winner knowing that they will get two chances to win one game for a spot in the Championship Series.
