Broken Finger To Sideline Tommy Manzella For Six Weeks

Aside from the fact that he's been earning a Major League paycheck, it's been a rough year for Tommy Manzella. The 27 year old rookie shortstop has batted a feeble .212/.259/.254 from the bottom of the Astros' order, and he hasn't shown any substantial gains at the plate or in the field.

And now a rough year’s only gotten worse:

Bad news: Manzella has a fractured left index finger. Out 6 weeks.

It would be easy, of course, to paint this as a good thing for the Astros, given that Manzella has been awful. And, in truth, it probably is. But the team still didn't want to see this happen, and certainly neither did Manzella, who is at risk of losing his job. The Astros intend to promote 25 year old infielder Oswaldo Navarro from AAA, where he's had a breakthrough season, and he could conceivably take the job and run with it.

Look to Crawfish Boxes for more.
