The NHL Awards Produce Olympics-Inspired Moment of Hilarity

↵Somewhere among the really bad impressions by host Jay Mohr (I’m no Tina Fey fan, but at least she could pull off Tracy Morgan) and riveting performances by acts such as Shinedown and the Goo Goo Dolls, the NHL Awards squeezed in a moment or two of actually watchable content, be it Alexander Ovechkin’s never ending acceptance speech to the eminently amusing skit posted above.↵↵In it, Ryan Getzlaf, the Anaheim Ducks center who also played for Canada in this year’s Olympics, continually ribs his American teammate Bobby Ryan for his country’s downfall at the hands of his countrymen. Eventually the continual reminders prove too grating, prompting Ryan to dare Getzlaf to quit hiding behind his Olympic teammates and accept a series of challenges to prove individual superiority. It’s a generic enough idea, but the writing is clever and it looks like the two players had quite a bit of fun with the idea as well. If only the rest of the broadcast had been as inspired.↵
