World Cup 2010, Brazil Vs. Portugal: Scoreless Draw Sees Brazil Win Group G, Portugal Advance In Second

It was not a gentleman’s agreement, with Brazil having chances to take a first half lead, but the top two teams in Group G ended-up playing out a 0-0 draw, keeping the top half of the group as-it-was on Thursday, sending Brazil through as group winner, Portugal into the knockout stage in second place.

Brazil had first half chances for Nilmar, starting for Robinho, and Luis Fabiano, two opportunities that would prove to be the match’s best. However, the 0-0 draw has the same effect for them as a win, giving them the group’s first place and slotting them against Group H’s second place team for the knockout stage.

Portugal’s point sees the Seleccao finish one point ahead of Cote d’Ivoire, garnering five points with their one win and two draws.

Portugal moves on to face the first place team from Group H next Tuesday in the Round of 16.
