Wild Wimbledon Continues: Hansecu Spits and Quits, Nadal Struggles, Serena-Sharapova Set

⇥⇥⇥⇥⇥⇥

Nothing at this Wimbledon is boring, at least.

That’s Victor Hanescu above, spitting at fans who heckled him on Friday. Hanescu then deliberately committed four foot faults and retired from his third round match against Daniel Brands. Oh, and then four fans were arrested for their conduct. Oh, and this all happened at Court 18, site of the Isner-Mahut marathon from earlier this week.

If I’m a Wimbledon spectator this weekend, I’m camping out at Court 18.

Of course, that might mean I would miss the nail-biters the two best men’s players are having. Roger Federer dropped sets in each of his first two matches, and today, Rafael Nadal struggled against Philipp Petzschner, requiring a fifth set after going down two sets to one for the second straight match. Might this be a Wimbledon without Federer or Nadal in the final?

On Monday, though, all eyes will be on Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova. Williams has lost ten games in three matches, and Sharapova is approaching the form she displayed when, in 2004, she dispatched Serena to win Wimbledon. Both won today to set up their Monday clash. To say that it might be the most anticipated match of the tournament so far would be an understatement.

But I don’t expect to understand how that match is decided. I haven’t understood much at this Wimbledon.
