Dustin Pedroia Injured In Loss, More X-Rays To Follow

The Boston Red Sox may have lost more than a game to the Giants on Friday night. After taking a pitch to the foot, second baseman Dustin Pedroia left the game and was seen on crutches later in the evening.

“They didn’t see any break or anything, but we’re obviously going to get him examined a lot more tomorrow,” [manager Terry] Francona said after a 5-4 loss to the Giants. “He’s having a tough time putting weight on everything. He’s really sore. You can tell, when he comes out of a game. So we’ll get him examined more. That’s all we can do right now.”

Losing Pedroia, who's chalked up an .871 OPS at the four-hole this season, would present a major issue for a surging Red Sox team that doesn't have much depth at second base. Given the Yankees' and Rays' excellent campaigns in the AL East so far, the Sox need all the help they can get.
