Ben Berger Wasted Many A Good Walk On Friday

Usually when one wishes to test the far limits of human endurance, golf is not the activity involved. Then again, when pushing yourself, it’s probably best to go with what you know. In a charity event for the Sonya Ansari Center for Autism in South Bend, Indiana, local pro golfer Ben Berger put in a 16-hour day on Friday, in which he played 612 holes and raised more than $200,000.↵↵Typically, he said, he is able to complete a par four hole in roughly a minute and 30 seconds. At such a feverish pace, quality of play is sure to suffer, though Berger must be pretty solid in regular circumstances if he was able to do so well at that clip.↵

↵↵⇥In his 612 holes, Ben finished with 95 birdies and five eagles. His worst round was an 82 and he had multiple rounds in the 60s. Of his 33+ rounds, 12 of them were of par or better.↵⇥↵⇥Ben’s hips began giving out on him by 2pm. It’s a pain he hasn’t experienced before during this marathon event. Around 4:45, Ben’s high octane 4-wheeler of a golf cart had to gas up. Ben used the time to stretch his body during this 5-minute break.↵⇥

↵↵↵The rigors of marathon golfing: nothing five minutes of stretching won’t alleviate. Still, Berger is obviously to be commended both for his exemplary play and fundraising prowess. But I mean, c’mon, if you really wanted to put yourself through the ringer, you can probably do without the golf cart.↵
