Tampa Bar Takes Advantage of Waiter’s Stunt at the World Cup
↵
↵Last week, 28-year-old St. Petersburg, FL resident Joe Fernandez rushed the field during the World Cup group match between Uruguay and Mexico with a Mexican flag tied around his neck like a cape. Even though Uruguay had just scored the decisive goal that would give them the victory, Fernandez was going to try to steal some excitement for himself. While Uruguay celebrated on the other end of the field, Fernandez ducked inside their goal before he unsuccessfully tried to evade security.↵↵An arrest for such antics on the world stage would likely cause consternation and embarrassment for whoever Fernandez’s employer happens to be. Lucky for him - or possibly why he was willing to risk such a stunt in the first place - he works as a server for a bar. That bar, Red Mesa Cantina, has fully embraced the lunacy as only a bar can. It probably also helps that Fernandez is the nephew of the chef and announced that he would rush the field before he even left for South Africa. ↵
↵↵To mark the outrageous episode, the Cantina announced a drink special for Fernandez. For a while, any customer who shouted “Viva Joe!” received a free margarita. Sadly for patrons, that promotion has ended. Fortunately for Fernandez, so has his brief jail stay.↵
