Real Madrid To Play Los Angeles Galaxy In August

Nine time European champions Real Madrid will be playing the Los Angeles Galaxy in a friendly on August 7, with the José Mourinho led club replacing the coach’s former club, current European champions Internazionale, who were originally scheduled to play on that day.

While the Internazionale match was set to take place at Home Depot Center, the Carson venue where the Galaxy play their Major League Soccer matches, the next friendly has been scheduled for the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.

LA Galaxy released a statement via their web site confirming the next friendly:

“While we were looking forward to playing Inter Milan, we are very pleased to be able to bring our fans a game against one of the world’s biggest clubs, one that features a host of the world’s top players in Real Madrid,” said Tom Payne, LA Galaxy President of Business Operations. “Many fans will remember Madrid’s last visit to Los Angeles when the teams played in front of a capacity crowd at The Home Depot Center in 2005, and now we will be hosting them at the historic Rose Bowl in what will prove to be another memorable game for soccer fans throughout Southern California.”

This will be the second year in a row that José Mourinho has come to the United States and the Rose Bowl, having played England's Chelsea FC at the venue last year as part of the World Football Challenge. It is also a return to Los Angeles for the Real Madrid, who last visited to play the Galaxy in 2005.

According to the report, the Catalan club, which finished behind only Barcelona in last year's Primera Division in Spain, is expected to bring a full squad despite ten of its members playing in the World Cup.

The Galaxy are expected to try and reschedule their match with Inter Milan.
