Orioles Expected To Fire Manager Dave Trembley After Awful Start

The Baltimore Orioles, at one point, were 2-14, with their next 16 games coming against Boston, New York, and Minnesota. Already on the hot seat, speculation began then and there that manager Dave Trembley wasn't long for his job, and while he managed to hang on for several more weeks, his time, it seems, is coming to a close:

According to the Baltimore Sun, the Orioles are expected to dismiss manager Dave Trembley from his role as manager prior to Friday's series opener against the Boston Red Sox. The report said Trembley will be replaced immediately by an internal candidate, which will likely be third-base coach and former All-Star Juan Samuel.

One wonders, of course, what firing Trembley will accomplish in a season that was lost from the start, but Trembley’s record is just 187-282 at the helm, the O’s have spent the last three years in the basement, and it’s possible that he’s just lost the clubhouse. Even if the players don’t actively disrespect him, it’s difficult to listen to and obey the instruction of a guy who, quite simply, doesn’t win. By replacing Trembley with the respected veteran Juan Samuel, a new voice takes the lead, and that simple change might be enough for the O’s to shape up. By keeping Trembley around, it’s possible that the team’s tailspin could only draw on.
