According to Sports Illustrated, representatives of Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather have agreed to terms on a deal that would place men in the ring together--at long last--for a November 13th title fight. The terms, which have apparently been approved by Pacquiao, are pending the approval of Floyd Mayweather, but otherwise, it looks like we could finally see the blockbuster that boxing fans have wanted all along.
Mayweather-Pacquiao Set For Nov. 13th? Promoter Says Terms Have Been Finalized
Promoter Bob Arum spoke to Sports Illustrated:
Arum did not disclose terms of the deal, which is expected to be a 50-50 split and include some form of drug testing. The fight is scheduled for Nov. 13 at a location to be determined. Las Vegas and Dallas are considered the favorites to land the fight.
Arum told SI.com that Mayweather has until mid-July to make a decision.
“This really depends, as I see it, on whether Mayweather wants to fight [Pacquiao]” Arum said. “By mid-July, he’s either in or out. We’re not going to wait forever. We’re going to have a fight on Nov. 13 and we would love it to be Mayweather.”
And even though there’s still plenty of uncertainty there--boxing fans have learned to be skeptical at this point--you have to like the direction here. Whether Mayweather accepts these particular terms remains to be seen, but either way, it seems we’re getting closer and closer to the biggest boxing fight we’ve seen in years.
