Garrett Wittels’ Hitting Streak Is Alive, But Won’t Resume Until 2011 Season
Garrett Wittels’ hitting streak remains intact Saturday after he extended it to 56 games on Saturday, but we won’t know whether he breaks Robin Ventura’s Division-I record of 58 until next year.
As of the writing of this story from earlier Saturday afternoon, Florida International held a 6-2 lead over Dartmouth. Unfortunately for shortstop Garrett Wittels and FIU, Dartmouth rallied and eventually won, 15-9. With FIU eliminated from the NCAA Coral Gables Tournament, Wittels will have to resume his pursuit of the record at the start of the 2011 season.

Florida International is currently attempting to extend its life in the 2010 NCAA Regional Baseball Tournament; if they do, Wittels’ streak can resume without a hitch.
