Clemson DT Jamie Cumbie Dismissed For Brutal Assault

Occasional starting DT Jamie Cumbie was released from the Clemson Tigers last week, for what Dabo Swinney referred to at the time as a “violation of team rules.” And this is why our ears perk up when that phrase gets dropped with no details:

↵Cumbie, 22, was arrested on May 28 by Clemson Police for assault and battery of high and aggravated nature. He was released on a $10,000 bond.
According to the police report the victim “had several lacerations to the facial area that required medical treatment and he was transported to the hospital.”
The arrest warrant stated the victim suffered a broken nose, swelling of the brain and multiple facial fractures. Cumbie outweighed the victim by an estimated 100 pounds.
↵Clemson’s defense ranked 7th in the ACC last year against the run, and can ill afford any more holes. The real takeaway here, however, is that assaulting someone you outweigh by 100 pounds is a violation of team rules at Clemson! Who knew?
