Greek Basketball Finals Curtailed By Fan Riots

↵
↵Greece has been the scene of recent fiery political riots, and now, too, the country can lay claim to troubling scenes of violence at its sports events. Coupled with the stampede at the soccer match in South Africa, Sunday wasn’t the most serene day for sports across the globe.↵
↵
↵Rival teams Olympiakos and Panathinaikos met in the finals and had the game called with a little over a minute left when angry Olympiakos fans began ripping out seats, hurling plastic bottles and even showering the court with flares. Panathinaikos was then awarded the title with a 76-69 victory. Adding to the dismay is that this is the second consecutive year that violence has broken out when the two teams have met in the playoffs. The start of the game had been delayed 40 minutes because 200 fans without tickets attempted to storm the arena, only to clash with police. ↵
↵
↵Just floating ideas here, but perhaps some added security measures are in order should the two teams met in the postseason again.↵
