Honduras did not want to be left out of the worldwide injury trend, so they had star midfielder Wilson Palacios come up with a knock this weekend in the Catarachos' 3-0 loss to Romania.
Cataracho Crisis Averted: Wilson Palacios Will Be Rady For Honduras’s 2010 World Cup
With injury concerns threatening to derail England (Rio Ferdinand), Cote d'Ivoire (Didier Drogba), the Netherlands (Arjen Robben), Italy (Andrea Pirlo), and the United States (Jozy Altidore), relative newcomers Honduras (who have only been to one prior World Cup) may have felt obliged to have an injury crisis of their own. Cue Wilson Palacios, their best player, being carried from the pitch in Austria with a groin injury.
Of course, Honduras did not plan Palacios’s injury, but with the spell of ailments afflicting the world’s best players, coordination is starting to become a better explanation.
If there is some New World Order conspiracy at play, Honduras has opted out, with today’s news that Palacios is set to be fit from their Catarachos’ opener against Chile:
Palacios was carried off during a 3-0 warm-up defeat by Romania in Austria on Saturday and taken to hospital for checks on his groin.“I supposedly had a pulled abductor but I feel a lot better. Thank God it’s nothing serious,” Palacios was quoted as saying in the daily La Prensa.
Honduras, the third qualifier from CONCACAF, also has Spain and Switzerland in their group, Group H. Wilson Palacios will be crucial to their chances to advance out of the quartet, with the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder playing a central role for the Catarachos.
