Drogba suffered the fracture on Friday in Cote d’Ivoire’s friendly against Japan. Originally feared lost for the tournament, Drogba underwent emergency surgery and is now expected back for Group G play.
The Chelsea striker’s current timetable is still uncertain, with hope mounting that he could be available for Les Elephants June 15 match against Portugal. Should he not be able to play, coach Sven-Goran Eriksson could slot Lille attacker Gervinho into his attacking three along with Chelsea’s Salamon Kalou and Lekhwiya’s Aruna Dindane.
